Bluebird Microcreamery is thrilled to announce that our mobile ice cream truck will arrive on Monday 10/31. To celebrate the occasion, we are giving away free scoops of ice cream! The details are as such: be in attendance at our PhinneyWood store when the truck pulls up on Monday afternoon, buy a scoop, and your second scoop is on us! We'll be posting details as the truck nears town on Monday, (all the way from Iowa.) Follow along on Facebook and Twitter for specific timing. We expect it in the late afternoon.

About the truck: The fully-refurbished 1958 DIVCO milk delivery truck has been retrofitted with a modern cold-plated freezer in the back. Some might recognize this style of truck from the Seattle streets of the 1950s, as we understand that Darigold had a whole fleet of them. We are incredibly excited that the truck will enable us to take our award-winning ice cream beyond the four walls of our stores, to the greater Seattle area. The truck will also be available for private occasions and functions.

Bluebird Opening New Shop

Concert on Sunday, August 7

Katy Kemmick, Hooves and Beak, Le Wrens and Jenny Invert will be on the Bluebird stage on Sunday, August 7. The doors will be open at 8:30 and the performance will begin at 9:00 and last until 11:30. All ages are welcome. As always, Bluebird is open for regular business during those hours, even if you do not want to stay for the concert. So come on by for some ice cream, a beer float, affogado, sandwich, or listen to some great music. We'll be here waiting for you!

Bluebird is continuing its summer series of concerts on Friday, July 29 with appearances by Battle Stations, Pony Time, and Orca Team. Doors open at 9:00, with the show beginning at 9:30 and lasting until 12:30am. There is a $4 cover charge - all ages welcome.

Capitol Hill Block Party With BATTLES Ice Cream Flavor

Bluebird is teaming up with one of Capitol Hill Block Party's 2011 headlining bands, BATTLES for a custom ice cream flavor. BATTLES has always been a staple on Bluebird's speakers, so when we found out that the first single off their new album is titled "Ice Cream" (vinyl available in 3 flavors) we knew we had to get together. Turns out some of their crew has strolled along Pike Street before, and has even been to Bluebird. They figured that since they're playing a block party right outside our shop, a neighborhood flavor would be in order. Straight from the mind of the band, BATTLES will be a coffee stout ice cream, with coffee from Caffé Vita, and stout from Elysian. Of course, the band will be in-store the day of the show, and we'll be hanging out, listening to the new album. So come say "what's up," and try a scoop.

Bluebird Celebrates Second Birthday With Weekend Party, Announces Two New Locations

Bluebird is turning two years old, and we're celebrating all weekend! (7/2&7/3) We'll be rolling out a new BIRTHDAY CAKE flavor to commemorate the event, complete with chunks of cake from our neighbors at Cupcake Royale. (For the non-dairy folk, we've got a vegan brownie batter ice cream with bits of cake from Mighty-O donuts!)

If you wish us a "happy birthday" any time on Saturday or Sunday, we'll sweeten your day by giving you a free topping on your choice of ice cream.

Our awesome new "Capitol Hill is Sweet" mural by Pine Sreet's Cakespy will also have its official ribbon-cutting this weekend. (This mural is a highlight of our Capitol Hill space. One-of-a-kind.) Here is an awesome e-tour of it.

Because we think that any proper party include live music, we'll be having a 3-band after-hours show on our stage, with Slow Skate, Seapony, and Slowwave on Saturday night.

And, if that wasn't enough, now for the BIG news: Bluebird is expanding with TWO additional locations.
Our shop in Fremont will be located at 3515 Fremont Ave. N at the corner of 36th and Fremont. We will be between the Dubliner bar and our friends at Pie. Official press link here.
Our shop in Greenwood/Phinney will be located at 7400 Greenwood Ave N. at the corner of 74th and Greenwood. We will share this building with Cornuto Pizza and Caffe Vita, with the spaces being internally connected, and a new patio being built out back, across all three restaurants. We have been fortunate to have spent these past two years with the best neighbors and customers in Capitol Hill. Bluebird to open Microcreamery and Brewery at 74th & Greenwood!

Bluebird has been looking for what would become our new (2nd) home for quite a while now; we are thrilled to have found it in the Phinney / Greenwood neighborhood! It's a fantastic neighborhood, and things just seemed to come together for us about 2 or 3 months ago. The corner where we are located is, of course, home to the famous 74th St Ale House, a favorite Seattle haunt of ours, plus, Herkimer has been holding it down on the opposite corner for a while now. So, we'll be sharing the corner with some impressive neighbors, for sure. (I just heard about another new restaurant "The Ridge," as well. Plus, our friends at A La Mode Pie will be opening just down the road.) The block is really coming together in a great way, and we found ourselves with a terrific situation when Cornuto Pizzeria and Caffe Vita coffee moved into the same building that we will be occupying. With Zak and Zoe already set to move across the street, we realized that we had a fantastic opportunity on our hands. Pizza, coffee, and ice cream: a perfect trifecta! There will be a large outdoor patio built along the back of the building, stretching across the three businesses, and Vita and Bluebird will be internally connected. We'll be pouring shots of Vita's coffee over scoops if you order your ice cream affogato, and Cornuto will be scooping Bluebird ice cream on their dessert menu. We are incredibly excited to open our doors, and beyond our new business neighbors, we can't wait to meet the people who live and work in the neighborhood. It's such a diverse part of town: from 20 somethings, to young families, to lifers, we're so glad to be a part of it. We hope the neighborhood will, in turn, welcome us.

For those unfamiliar with Bluebird: it's small batch, locally sourced artisan ice cream. We strive to make all of our flavors the-best-you've-ever-had: If you try a sample, you'll want a full scoop. We source locally, taking advantage of our natural surroundings (like fruit from Remlinger Farms) as well as the wealth of like-minded artisan food makers in Seattle (Elysian Stout ice cream, anyone?) It's ice cream made from local dairy, with all-natural and organic ingredients.

We've been incredibly fortunate to have received some great press, both locally and nationally. For example, last year MSN featured us on their list of Top 10 indie ice cream shops in the USA, and this year AOL Travel mentioned us at #4 on their best ice cream in the country list. There's a bit about our PB&J ice cream in this month's Seattle Magazine, and there's going to be a feature about us in July's Sunset Magazine. Seattle Weekly Voracious called ours the best coffee ice cream in Seattle. We're only two years old, so we're extremely humbled by all the praise.

As a special new venture for us, we will operating a nano-brewery on premises, where we'll be making hand-crafted ales and sodas for floats on tap. (Yes, we do beer floats at our Capitol Hill location.) You'll also be able to fill growlers for your fridge at home.

Bluebird is Coming to Fremont!

After six months of negotiations (no joke, but, it was worth it) we're thrilled to officially announce that we are indeed moving to the neighborhood! We'll be located at 3515 Fremont Ave N, (This is the Dubliner building at the corner of 36th & Fremont.) between the Dubl iner bar and our friends at Pie. Ice cream and Pie: a killer combo, right? Pizza and ice cream is another dietary staple for us, so it's great that Kylie's pizza is on the same corner, as well. We're also hoping to draw from the Flying Apron crowd across the street, with our vegan ice cream flavors. And we're just down the street from our chocolatier, Theo, too. I could go on and on about all the great neighbors we are honored to join in Fremont, (Hotel Hotel moving in upstairs!) but, it goes without saying, we are expanding to Fremont because we love the neighborhood, and the people who live and work there! We hope that they will all welcome us.

Artwalk - March 10

Join us on Thursday for the opening of our March show, "Aging Beauty," a series of gigantic acrylic on canvas works by Kate Tesch. This show is *really* awesome, and we're very excited about it.
Kate works with a splattered paint technique, and pulls individual spots on canvas together to form shapes of people and faces. The works are quite large, and we're excited that our 18' walls will be filled with her art. Artist will be in attendance, and we will be pouring local microbrews for one-dollar-off during the event.

Artist's description of show:
"This series of paintings deals with the universal human condition of aging. Inevitable and inescapable from the day we are born, we are all involuntarily awakened to the unstoppable passing of time. From expressions of wonder on a newborn's face to those sculpted into the face of an old man, the landmarks of the past and the expressions of the unknown future are remarkably displayed in our faces. From an infant to an octogenarian our expressions leave impressions... what is painted on your face?"

New beer on tap: Odin's Pearl Belgian White Ale

It's the season for Belgian beer, so we're putting Odin's Pearl on
tap; a brand new beer from Odin Brewing, of the South Park
neighborhood. We had a chance to sample it a few weeks ago, and here's
the lowdown: it's a Belgian white ale, but very light, yet still
maintaining subtle complexity. It also lays low on the orange peel and
coriander, so I'd call it an "easy-drinking craft Belgian." Probably
better to try it for yourself.

Bluebird is happy to announce that we are now serving Cafe Frog Milk Stout by Rogue-Issaquah Brewhouse. This is a milk stout using coffee roasted two blocks away on Pike St. It was created by our good friend, Steve, who is the head brewer at Issaquah.

Bluebird will be joining Northwest Local Companies Ninkasi Brewing, Oregon Natural Meats, and THEWORLDISFUN.ORG on December 8 at the Celtic Bayou in Lynwood. The purpose of this dinner is to celebrate and promote the local treasure the Pacific Northwest has to offer. THEWORLDISFUN.ORG is also sponsoring a canned food drive that evening in order to help local charities.

Bluebird has created two special ice cream flavors especially for this dinner, using Ninkasi beers: Ninkasi Oatis Oatmeal Stout Vanilla and Ninkasi Total Domination Hop Chunk IPA. YUM!

Holiday Ice Cream Pies

Open Mic Is Moving!

Elysian's Great Pumpkin Beer Festival

Elysian's sixth annual Great Pumpkin Beer Fest is this weekend, October 16 and 17. Bluebird has created three new flavor ice creams, using Elysian's brews:

-Dark o' the Moon: Made using Dark o' the Moon pumpkin stout. A sweet
pumpkin start, stout flavors with notes of coffee, honey, caramel, and a
delightfully bitter finish.

-Kaiser Kubris: Cinnamon-Brown Sugar ice cream with chunks of Washington
apple soaked overnight in Kaiser Kubris Pumpkin Hefeweizen.

-The Great Pumpkin: Pumpkin Ice Cream seasoned with traditional
pumpkin pie spices plus a hint of Great Pumpkin Imperial Ale.

We’ll be on with our good friends and neighbors at Elysian Brewing Co. , showing the guys some of our beer ice creams, as well as some of our other flavors. The spot is to promote the expanded launch of a new Elysian “Men’s Room” beer. (We made it into ice cream, as well.)

They are also committed to locally sourced ingredients and sustainable business practices. And, their dishware comes from area thrift shops, and they will serve their ice cream in coffee mugs. As some of you may know, much beloved Chai House was recently forced out
of their space in Ballard due to a whopping 50% increase in rent. Chai House
was a great little local institution and will be missed. In the meantime, we are
going to provide musical shelter for the musicians of their weekly
open-mic event. Starting tonight, Bluebird will host an open mic
every Thursday unless otherwise noted. Signups start at 7:30 and the
open mic runs from 8-10. The usual folks from Chai House will be
running this event. As the weeks pass, we hope the event will evolve

A Note About This Morning...

Thanks to everyone who came out this morning. We were amazed at the
turnout. We ran the same exact promotion for a free breakfast sandwich
last Friday, and we got a modest turnout of a lot of our beloved
regulars. This morning, though, was nuts! Within an hour, we had gone
through our supply of breakfast sandwiches.
We used the same promotional tactic as last time: we sent a message
out to our email list. However, this morning, people told us they'd
heard about the deal via places like The Stranger's Slog, Seattle
Weekly Blog, and KOMO News Blog (!!)
Clearly, we were not anticipating the masses that arrived, but we were
happy to serve you. Sorry if you got here at 9 and we were out of
sandwiches (and other things!) So, now we know: get here early if you
want to score on the deal. Sorry if we were all out by the time you
arrived.
